power steering fittings and lines
I posted a few months about using a 1984 p/s pump and a 1968 p/s box and how to mate these two together. I am now at the point that this needs to happen. I got in touch with Lee in Ca. and his fix was to get a fitting that fitted the 84 and the other end be a common fitting and get a fitting that fitted the 68 steering box with the other end being a common fitting that matched the common fitting on p/s pump. So, I bought what he told me would work and to be honest it all sounds correct, but now that I am trying to put it all together, I have a problem. The fitting that he sold me are male on both ends. Now, if I install them in my p/s box and my p/s pump then I have 2 common end, except they are male ends and p/s lines are male on both ends. So, do they make p/s lines with female ends or will I have to adapt the adapters???
I don't know about you but just trying to relate this has me confused! I'll try to contact Lee next week and see if he can sort this out. I guess I could get a line with one of the correct end on it and cut the other end off and replace it with what would work. ??? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED....THANKS! |

Someone on the board helped me out with this. If I understand what you're up against, you have a pump with an o-ring fitting and a gearbox with a flared fitting. The big nut on the back of the pump unscrews (I think it was 1 1/8 inch) and you can screw the one from your old pump into the back of the newer pump. Use the hoses for the 68. The return line is just clamped, so that part is easy.

Yes truckster is correct take the screw on fitting off a non o ring ps box and use that on your newer box
Gm keeps many things common it helps us hot rod them more easily |

That sounds like the simplest fix for this but I don't have the old p/s pump. Can you buy that part of the pump? Thanks!!

Most likely one place to look would be pick a part type junk yards or craiglist parts trucks
