proportioning valve

Hello,
I am going to use the proportioning vale from the 87 c10 that I got the power steering and front crossmember and brake booster from. This one has the wire going to it for the sensor. What if anything do I need to do to it so it can be used on my 1964 C10? OR is this a bad idea and order a new one?

Cut the wire off.

If you want the sensor to work you could wire a light to it. It’s the ground connection.
It’s not needed to be hooked up.
A new prop valve will have a hole for the switch just like yours. No gain with a new prop.

If that proportioning valve has the trip spool you'll need the tool to hold it centered while you bleed..

I used the old prop valve from my 79 donor. I got away with not needing that special tool though.

Just so I am on the same page. I need the tool to bleed it, but after that I don't need anything to use the vale the way it is. It just grounds out and puts on the light on the dash correct. Thanks for the reply much appreciated.

If you have the trip spool, you need the tool...but only for bleeding the system...then replace it with the switch...give us a pic of your prop valve if you can....

Correct. You only use the little tool to hold the shuttle valve centered while you bleed the brakes. Once you get the brakes bled remove the tool and reinstall the brake warning switch. Believe it or not that tool is plastic and about $10.00 on eBay. Well it's been several years since I bought the tool it might be more now.
