Valve covers w/ oil filler hole sbc
I've been searching for a set of chrome valve covers for my rebuilt 350 with a oil filler hole and haven't had much luck. I like the Proform brand and Edelbrocks, but neither come with a filler hole. All of them have baffles in the holes for a breather. What is everyone doing to add oil? I know you can pour through the breather hole, but that takes awhile to fill with 5 quarts of oil. Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.

Re: Valve covers w/ oil filler hole sbc
I have Edelbrock's chrome valve covers on mine. Came with it. Changing oil is a real p.i.t.a.
There is really no way to add anything with out dumping most of the oil down the block. Long funnel, with a hose, doesn't matter. Before next oil change, or sooner if I get to it they are coming off and originals are going back on. Have to decide yet on short or tall covers. Have both. The only other way is to cut a hole in them just for a filler cap or tube. |

My son has the edelbrock ones and it's terrible for filling oil. Surely someone has a good way to modify them. Hopefully someone can lead me in the right direction.

Old school and aluminum intakes either already have the hole drilled for the tube oil fill or can be drilled to use one .

One option is Chevy LT-1 valve covers, GM 474207 & 404208. They are still available. I got mine from Pace Performance. The filler cap is ACDelco 19114657 (I think).

Not chrome but I usually snag a set of cheap used aluminum covers and polish them w/ a scotchbrite type thing in a die grinder. Not overly shiny but looks ok and less leaky than tin covers.
You can make a polisher w/ a 1/4" bolt, fender washers, nuts and a scotchbrite pad folded several times. |
