How wide on rear wheel?

What’s the widest rear wheel I can run? Truck has 8” GM rally’s now with 4” backspace. 10” possible with 5” back spacing? I’m looking to mount and run 275 M/T drag radials. Truck is all factory including wheel tubs.

Re: How wide on rear wheel?

Those should fit fine on the wheels you have now. They are just a bit over 11" total width. You should end up with nearly a couple inches on each side. Lorne

Thanks for the info. I’m wanting to buy two extra wheels to mount the drag radials on and swap out at the track. Planning on driving on regular tires to the strip.

Re: How wide on rear wheel?

10" w/5"bs should work fine. That can easily be verified w/your current combo by putting something 1" thick on the inside of the current wheel/tire & 1" on the outboard side. Rotate the wheels w/it on jack stands & look for any issues.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: How wide on rear wheel?

I have 15x12 Weld alumastars on my 72 with Mickey Thompson 29x15.5x15's.
With the stock wheel tubs they just barely rubbed, Didn't trust it to run it down the track so I sprung for the +4" wheel tubs ($179/pair scratch and dent from jegs), oddly enough they were not scratched or dented. Other than being the wrong color - they were perfect.

After the tubs went on there is more than enough room to tuck the 18.5" wide sportsman's and still have room to party!
