I'm new here, a few photos to introduce....

It's a '55, my brother-in-law had three, two with big windows and one with a small. Two were long beds, one is a shorty. I bought in and we moved cabs and beds so we each got what we wanted. My choice was big window with a long bed.I cut the frame and welded in a Camaro clip and put in the "Rat motor" and Turbo 400. I've also got the 12 bolt and drive shaft installed, looking forward to returning to Oregon to get it on the road. Bob

For the 12 bolt rear, I acquired an '85 Chevy truck rear clip with the plan to swap in the diff. After taking some careful measurements I found the frame was the same width as the '55 so I cut off the rear of the frame and welded in the '85.I mounted a gas tank in the rear and ran the exhaust. It would be driving by now except we spend winters in Mesa and the project is at my home in Oregon.

let me clarify
-got a bunch of parts and trucks between you guys. sorted and ended up with what you want to start out with
-cut off the front of the frame and welded a different frame section in from a different old car to get IFS
-cut off the rear of the frame and welded a different frame section from a different old truck to get a different rear axle, gear ratio, springs etc.
the original part of your frame is what the cab is sitting on in the middle
-your frame is a home done, three piece, welded together, custom part. that's a lot of work and measuring, levelling etc. seems like it was all done in a short time frame. that's perseverance. good on you

just for giggles, here is a thread that shows a guy using an 88 chevy truck frame as a frame swap. I thought of this when you talked about your rear axle need/want and the rear half frame swap to get the axle. the parts came out of a similar truck I think. plus all the work and time to do the front end swap. it made me think of all the work I did on a old frame from my 57. disassembling, degreasing, blasting, welding holes closed, levelling, welding in a MII front end, making cross members, building trans mounts, building engine mounts, welding in a 4 link, sourcing and installing a different axle out back and doing wheel bolt pattern change overs on the rear axles so they match the front, on and on. I sold that frame and swapped to an envoy. lots of plusses with stuff already there, 4 wheel discs, 4 link, air bags, IFS strut front end with rack, fuel tank with pump integrated, fuel and brake lines done, park brake cables done, engine and trans mounts done, exhaust done, aftermarket performance parts available as bolt ons, on and on. if you get the v8 version it is an aluminum block LS with lots of potential. just wanted to mention the other build in case that interests you. maybe not since you are waist deep in your already, but might be worth a look. you always get ideas if nothing else.
not trying to rain on your parade, you're making great progress and getting lots done and the work looks good, just giving ideas. hopefully you don't take it the wrong way. keep posting pics and doing progress reports. we all like to see forward motion.

Thanks for the kind responses, I feel welcome here. This is a great forum with well thought-out responses and amazing projects being done by some real craftsmen. It has been a frustrating experience however, being a member of this group. I joined in July or August but could not post. The response was always "You don't have permission......" and I could not find a solution! I rejoined, I changed my password, I had my wife join, I never had permission and I couldn't solve the problem. I even sent several messages to the webmaster but never got a response. Finally I got help from another member who explained that I had to pay! I don't mind the $25 but the frustration has been very annoying. How many others are in the same situation and haven't found a solution.
This photo is another view, I have four of those wheels all nice and rusty. I'm going to finish assembling leaving the rust, some call it patina, and just drive it for a while. How do I prevent the photo rotating?

Sounds like you got a great plan

About the pictures, It helps if you turn your phone sideways.
After that e-mail them to your computer.
Then resize(just ever so slightly) and rotate them if needed.
Then make sure to hit the (preview post) button to look and see if it flipped.
Then hit (Submit Reply) once you got it sized correct.

It took me a while to figure out what worked for me.

I deleted the post with my sideways picture till I
Found out what work with pics from phone to laptop.

Different phones and computers have different way
of transfering pics to forums.

I tried the way in this link below.

So I found another way by trial and error

I went back and deleted a-lot before I found what works for me

I find it hard to believe that a moderator or someone on the form that you dealt with hadn’t told you that you had to be a supporting member to post I’m glad I was able to help you out I do everything with my phone if I take a picture with my phone in a vertical position it looks right to me but when it posts its sideways if I take the picture with my phone horizontally it posts correctly it took a while for me to figure out what the cause was I guess it’s just one of those little inconveniences we have with all this modern technology LMAO

Ok, so for the record, and this is not intended for the OP, you do not have to be a paid member to post photos. There are lots of people on here that post photos every day and are not paid members. So, let's not spread those rumors.

Back to the build now

Back from winter in Az and finally getting caught up with neglected yard work and some progress on my project. Got the inner fenders cut around the Camaro suspension, fenders mounted, battery box made and installed, fuel pressure regulator and gauge installed and just about ready for the core support and radiator. So many rusted and broken off bolts! I'm getting better at removing them but so much delay. I'm skipping the "easy-out" method and just MIG welding a nut to the broken bolt and using a wrench. Some times it'll take three attempts but all have eventually given up and left good undamaged threads. Bob
