52 slammed project with my boys
We found this 52 that had been started in Sacramento California work by Jays hot rods. Sitting on a s10 frame with air ride, 4 link and posi mocked up with a core SBC and 700R4. Just brought it home to Oregon... Going to be a great project with my boys. really a rust free 3 owner truck that lays the frame.
Anyone running Detroit steelies on their S10 conversion? I think we are looking at 9" wide wheels and white walls as our first purchase.

Re: 52 slammed project with my boys
Anybody running Detroit steelies with a S10 frame? Want to get some ideas on off-set and tire size. The plan is 20's with 9" wide steel wheels at this point.

Re: 52 slammed project with my boys
Looks like a nice truck.
I don't have the Detroit steel wheels or an S10 frame but I do have 20x8.5" wheels and it's a tight fit. With the 255/40/20 tire there's about 1/2" clearance to the edge of the fender and the same amount to the bed side. I would think a 9" wheel on a truck that sits much lower than mine would be a problem. I'm in Salem and you can come take a look if that helps.

Re: 52 slammed project with my boys
I ran mobsteels on a GMC a couple years ago. my advice is you spend the money on the trim rings, always looks better than without. the sizes I went with were front 245/40 and rear 275/40.

Re: 52 slammed project with my boys
OK, its time to start buying and acquiring parts for our build. I have the 700R4 built and am picking up a 383 stroker long block next week. My question is has anyone put a fuel tank behind the cab in the frame. Since this truck is running accuair and a 4 link the area behind the rear end is taken up. Also any suggestions on the Holley sniper set up would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: 52 slammed project with my boys
There are several people throughout this forum who are using the Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 system. I know that is not what you asked about. sweetk30 had a Sniper kit and he had numerous problems with it. He documented a lot of them here, http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ghlight=sniper There are some other threads in there that you might want to read as well.

Re: 52 slammed project with my boys
From the looks of it, you dont have room there for a tank either...what I've seen done on trucks with similar issues is to mount a tank in the bed at the front, making it look like a old toolbox or trunk..
Are the air tanks in the rear?..if so you might move the air tanks to the bed and the fuel tank in their place And like Ricky stated , Holley issues are rampant with the sniper..

Re: 52 slammed project with my boys
yes the air system has been mocked up in the rear, I think I will fab a custom tank in the frame, although it doesn't look there is room in the pic, its actually a decent space for a fuel cell. Thanks for the input on the Holley system too. The less headaches the better when it come to EFI carbs

Re: 52 slammed project with my boys
this would be my advice too, I have had a lot of airbagged rides and never had a problem with a gas tank but had LOTS of problems with air ride. and even NOT really problems but just draining the water out of the tank (water separators go between the tank and valves, not between the compressor and tank BTW, you will always have lots of water in the tank) is a giant PITA with the tank under the truck. air leak? laying on your back fixing something that is slowly coming down on you. put the air ride stuff in the bed toolbox, and the gas tank in the back.

Re: 52 slammed project with my boys
Hey guys, Scott’s boys Wyatt and Jake here. Guess it’s finally time for an update!! My dad and I work full time, and with Jake finishing just finishing up College at University of Oregon we have been slow going, but it’s starting to come back together. Before the truck was blown apart Jake specked out the biggest wheel/tire combo we could fit with no modification to front or rear fenders, what came out was a 20x8 up front and 20x9 out back with 245/40/20 skinny white walls. The truck was fully disassembled and after smoothing the frame a bit it was sent for powder. Once the frame was back a new 383 stroker was dropped in with a refreshed 700R4, holly sniper, smoothed ramhorn manifolds, and a CVF racing front drive. The stock s10 diff was kept as it was all prepped for the 4 link and bag perches, and had 3:73 Posi already. A custom fuel tank was built by Ricks Tanks, and we picked up an Accuair e-Level kit to manage the ride. Jake and I then set off building all the fuel lines, air lines and brake lines by hand, man what a challenge bending line by hand was.. All the lines and wiring run down the frame and through the rear notch to keep everything hidden, we are super happy with how it came out. Still some odds and ends to the frame (driveline, battery box and lots of wiring). Next up will be to smooth the firewall in preparation for new satin paint, vintage air and powder coated inner fenders. A good friend of ours owns a local hot rod shop and invited us to bring the cab over if we helped with the welding, metal and body work, and we are stoked to learn!once the cab is back we will move to the interior, and hopefully get this thing looking like a complete truck again! More pics to come, enjoy!

Re: 52 slammed project with my boys
More updates! Took the cab to a family friends shop who took us through the metal work on the firewall. Moving onto mock-up & body working/painting the firewall and powder coating the inner fenders and core support. A trip to Napa and a few minuets searching through their stack of radiators hoses turned up two that should work perfect!
