72 C20 rear brakes

72 C20 rear brakes looking at threads, looking at rock auto list back brake parts list as coil or leaf

Are the shoes and wheel cylinders the same between d60 and the eaton ?

I may switch to 14 bolt later on I am thinking about a posi for it rather then steal a locker from my other eatons

They are not the same. I found out the hard way, and have a new set of Delco shoes to fit the Eaton rear I cannot use, and it has been too long to return. I purchased a set for "coil spring" rear, and they were wrong. apparently Rock Auto assumes all coils were eaton, and they are not. Big Block Chev came with a Dana and coils unless ordered otherwise. But, in a nutshell both rears could be had with coils or leaves so use caution ordering.
If you are looking for some new ACDelco shoes for a Eaton rear PM me, and I will make a deal on a set.

Re: 72 C20 rear brakes

I have a 72 C20 BB with a Dana 60 and rebuilt my brakes. It took three trips to the parts store to get the correct parts. The shoes, drums and wheel cylinders are based on options/model for your truck. SBC vs. BBC, coils vs. leaf's, SB vs. BC, overload springs etc.. All of these seem to way in on what brakes the truck has. I had to measure the size of the shoes to make sure I got the correct size. I took my wheel cylinders in to ensure the brake line connection came out at the correct angle. My parts were a Hodge podge of parts from listings that came from for coil only and leaf only listings, none of the listings in the book had all of the correct parts listed. I am certain if I had ordered online I would have never gotten the correct parts.

Re: 72 C20 rear brakes

something I found out when I tried to replace the rear hub seals...last week on my 71 C20,350 sbc, is that my leaf spring dana, made by spicer didnt have dana seals in it but spicer seals that are a different inside and outside diameter and arent interchangable, different part numbers and prices. didnt check the bearings, The brakes were the same. Best to take the old seals with you. guess I have spicer internals in a dana housing. hope this helps
