‘81-‘87 4x4 Transmission tunnels
I noticed that our ‘84 K2500 with the factory SM465 has a one-piece solid transmission tunnel where as the ‘83 has the older style bolted/removable type tunnel (both are 4x4s with SM465s and high hump tunnels). Does anyone know if the transmission tunnels are the same shape between the bolted style and solid type? We were thinking of cutting out the tunnel on the ‘84 and fitting the older bolted style cover in its place. Anyone done this before?

I've definitely heard of it being done, but haven't done so myself. My 1987 manual-trans v20 has a non-removable hump. I've wondered about purchasing a removable hump from the junkyard and bolting it in. It would make transmission service a bit easier. It's possible the cab would lose some rigidity though.

The floor shape is just a bit different when they changed to the solid floor, but not a lot. The 81-83 bolt in is closer than the 73-80, but either are not that hard to fit.

Where does the np208 shifter attach on a removable hump floor? Is it bolted to the hump, or to the floor behind the hump?

Removable section (this came out of my 82, and has been modified for an NV4500, by cutting offset and turning the piece around that goes around the shift tower, thereby retaining the original shifter boot)

Here is one i have from an 80 K30. It had a np205 case. Its a little different, as the removable portion of the hump isnt quite as long as the 81-83

So on the perimeter of the removable section, does it line up and sit flush with the floorboard or does it require some reshaping of the edges to match up? Are there big gaps that require loads of sealant to close?

My '84 2-wheel drive has the higher non removable hump since it is a manual truck. Plenty of room for any transmission that I want. I've test fitted with a 6L80e and I have plenty of room all the way around.

I did this on my 75 2wd cab. I just cut out the hole and put a cover back in and used nutserts for the bolt holes. You will need the little hump piece to meet up with the rear of the cover that 44th Miss Inf pictured. Otherwise the cover fits great in the front and sides.
