1990 454ss
My wife bought a pretty original, low mile truck for my birthday. It’s only got 16k miles. It’s not perfect it was rarely driven and stored indoors. Guy made a couple of mods but feel the best thing to do is try to get it back original.
A few things working on are replacement floor mats (ouch! How much for 2 pieces of maroon rubber), replace headliner and visors, find original black centercaps (at some point they were replaced with chrome version), and a short in the radio. Issue I just noticed this weekend….a nice looking cat-back system was installed. Straight from car to muffler, 1 in, 2 out, both pipes exit behind passengers wheel. Well in order to to this they removed the spare for the innermost pipe and I don’t have it. What size was the spare? 275/60/15 BFG? Which wheel? 15x7 or 15x8? Would guess it was a plain black steelie like the other c1500s. Can anyone confirm? I’ll have to source a date coded spare from the salvage yard. Any knowledge or direction will be helpful.

Re: 1990 454ss
Factory wheels were 15x7. I do believe the spare was also a 275/60x15, but never looked at the one on my friends truck back then, so not a 100% on the tire size. Wheels were all 15x7 though.

Re: 1990 454ss
I just purchased a 1990 Sport all original. The spare was the same chrome wheel as the other 4....same size blackwall 275 60R15 BF Goodrich tire. If you decide to sell the chrome center caps, please pm me and give me first shot at them as I would want them for spares, just in case. Thanks.

Re: 1990 454ss
I bought a new 454SS in Feb. 1990 from Cormier Chevy in Long Beach. All 5 wheels were the same chrome steel 15X7's, all 5 tires were BFG 275/60R15 T/A radials. One of the first things I did to it was replace the black center caps with chrome! For some reason the 'Sport' trucks had the same wheels with chrome caps, the 454's had black caps. But, most of the pictures in the brochures and ads showed the 454's with chrome caps.
I have seen a few real clean originals, might buy another one some day.......

It has the chrome 15x7s with BFG 275/60/15.
My spare is missing and looking to find which tire/wheel was used as spare. Guessing it is same as other C1500s and likely 15x7 steel with 235/75/15. Hoping someone here can confirm spare tire wheel/tire size fit the 454SS. Posted via Mobile Device |
