Fuel pump strainer question
98 model, gasoline, 5.0 - installing a new fuel pump. Bought a new GM pump. The old pump has a sock strainer on the bottom of it. The new one does not have a strainer on the bottom. It does not look like there's anyway to attach a strainer to it. Question: Do the replacement pumps not have strainers??

Re: Fuel pump strainer question
Yes it needs a strainer. It presses on the round opening on the bottom. I checked the Auto Zone app and it shows pictures of the Delphi and AC Delco pumps without the strainer attached but says it's included. The other brand pumps show the strainer attached.

Re: Fuel pump strainer question
The new pumps have the strainer inside the plastic housing. There is no need for an additional strainer. I am assuming you had to replace the fuel pump connector for the replacement pump. The GM/AC Delco part number is MU1745.

Re: Fuel pump strainer question
Usually when there is a change that is very different visually the part comes with a piece of paper that reads something like "replacement part may not match part being replaced but meets or exceeds OEM specifications".
