Pre runner
I was thing about a pre runner. What do you guys use for suspension? I want a 73-80 chevy short bed. I only want to go 2-3 in higher. Would a 2 in body lift be a bad idea? If I did the body lift could I run 32x11.50? If so would a 16X10 rim or would a 16X8 rim be better?

Is this truck a 2 or 4 wheel drive?!
Suspension for sure over having a body lift. Get the WHOLE truck higher, not just the body. Remember you will have stuff hanging down that will catch on rocks/dirt/???. If you don't already own the truck, I would suggest a longer wheelbase truck, such as a longbed. Simply because it is longer. Ever drive a Jeep, then drive a longwheelbase truck; the Jeep seems a little squirly... IMO anyway. In highschool, 4wheeling was the thing, whether you were crawling the rocks or doing 100+ in the boonies on old service roads. I learned that a little longer truck was way easier to handle at higher speeds. I don't know how into this you want to get. But if your going in hot and heavy, just take everything out of that truck. If it doesn't need it to make the truck move, ditch it; all it is is added weight. Move the engine back a few inches, help balance the truck out. Put a fuel cell in the very back of the bed. Move the battey to the back, ect. Put a rollcage in that thing and 4pt harness!!!!!!! Trust me Good luck and have fun!

if you're going for pure pre-runner style, lose the inner fender wells, bed floor and lighten the truck as much as possible!! get high arched springs, (lift or 3/4 ton springs, and soften them up by losing a leaf or 2. quad shock the front end. one shock is on the outside of the spring, i think you can fit another on the inside of the spring!! i have heard of people doing this on c-10's, but never saw it myself. body lifts are bad. roll bars are good. lock the rear with the trusty MIG welder and hit the trails!! i've done a 4X2 ranger in this style, and it romped with a 4 banger!!

this is my buddy's toyota 4runner. used to be 4wd but has since removed all the 4x stuff. if you only want a couple inches then maybe taller coils and lift blocks fit the bill. if you are serious about the ride quality then maybe long travel a-arms with coilovers and a 4 link out back with coilovers would suit you better. contact fabtech (www.fabtechmotorsports.com) or camburg engineering at www.camburg.com
