Chrome vs. Aluminum Grill Shell

I am looking to replace the grill shell on my 1970 K10. Looking at LMC, they show a aluminum and a chrome version. The chrome grill shell shows currently out of stock. Can anyone shed some light on which version I should be looking at ? Is there somewhere else I should be shopping ?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Re: Chrome vs. Aluminum Grill Shell

I have the same issue. LMC is out of stock for at least 10 weeks. They don't have a vendor for the chrome grille. I'll probably end up using the aluminum grille. That is like the original, but the chrome is really nice.

Thanks Tinman. If the aluminum grill shell is as nice as the original, I'd be happy with that. Wish they has an actual picture of the aluminum grill shell on the web site. Maybe someone here will chime in or post a pic of the LMC Aluminum or offer advise of where else to shop.......

Re: Chrome vs. Aluminum Grill Shell

I've seen the aluminum one in person. It looks pretty good. It is a display that hangs on the wall. I assume the ones from the warehouse are as good. I don't know of any other place that sells the chrome ones. I've also seen their display of the chrome, it really is nice. Classic Parts of America has the aluminum. They seem to be consistently higher on prices than LMC. If you order 24 hours in advance and pick up in person from LMC, you save 10%.

I have the Chrome Steel grill from LMC on my 70 C10 and love it. I watched daily for months for them to come back in Stock. When they do get them they don’t take long to run out. The fit was Good, not to much messaging and the Chrome is real Nice. The little Red dot is a magnet to show its steel

Re: Chrome vs. Aluminum Grill Shell

I just used one of the aluminum shells from LMC. It fit as good as the busted original and looks good. Maybe I got lucky?

Re: Chrome vs. Aluminum Grill Shell

It used to be the stock one and the chromed steel ones were our only choices. Recently a aluminum grille with a higher polish was released. Currently I only see them as sold out.
If you can find any grille f/s your lucky.
Some didn't recommend the chromed grille for a daily driver as they rusted too easily.
Depending on climate and conditions of course. Your results may vary.

Re: Chrome vs. Aluminum Grill Shell

Aftermarket chrome pits up fast in my area. I stay with the General's design. I guess a garage queen fair weather driver might fare well. Original shines enough for me, but mine's not a custom

Re: Chrome vs. Aluminum Grill Shell

Will the Chrome Grille match the rest of the trim on the truck?

Not really, unless the trim is stripped down and polished back up to a micro polish to resemble chrome. Factory chrome on bumpers, door handles, and emblems. Stainless window trim. Anodized aluminum body moldings and grille
