OK, I am an idiot! I took the glovebox door and hinge off to paint them. Now. NOTHING works! I can't get the screws to go back into where the hinge and the dash meet and that little spring dealie that sticks out under the hinge? Well, where does THAT go? Gosh, this short term memory stuff stinks!!

i just happen to have my glove box door sitting here in the room with me.
if these pics don't help i can get some better ones maybe. just let me know what you need. Are you talking about that heavy wire that runs thru the hinge?

Why can't I get the screws to go back into the hinge then onto the dash frame. I wonder if I don't have the clips in correctly....and that wire on the hinge...where does it go when you mount the door back on?

When you mount the hinge to the door, the spring should look like Metalman's first picture.

When the hinge is mounted to the dash opening the spring, as pictured in Metalman's second picture, is captured between the frame and the hinge in the hinge's formed pocket.

The spring is tensioned when you close the glove box door as it assists the door to open when you push the button.

If you need a pic of the assembled door, the screws or the clip nuts, just let me know.

i also need a pic. i took mine off and didnt realize that thing was there to spring the door open!

Here is a picture of the right side. The clip nut and screw are like the ones that hold the hinge to the frame.

That explains a lot. My truck is such a hodge podge of parts. The screws that were in the hinge aren't even the correct ones. Off to the parts catalog!

I don't want to mislead you, the pictured screw is to hold the hinge to the frame. The screws that hold the hinge to the glove box are machine screws. Do you need a pic of the the screw that holds the hinge to the door?

I want you guys to see the results of your EXCELLENT advice. I bought new zinc screws and bolts. I just could never get those clips to work. I am not totally finished but am getting close!
