Re: 72 C-10 Help
Can you adjust your brake shoes further in until the drum will just slip on?

Re: 72 C-10 Help
If you open the bleeder screw, you should be able to seat the shoes on the anchor pin. They appear not to be in contact. Also, you are missing the automatic adjuster.

Re: 72 C-10 Help
No E-brake? The cross bar seems to be missing.
That aside if you can post a pict from the bottom so we can see the adjuster it would help. You can drive without a E-brake but you have to have the star wheel adjuster to have the automatic adjusting feature. You don't want to be without it. Note; The shorter (primary) brake shoe in front, the longer trailing shoe goes in the rear. I can't tell which is front so be sure to check it. The adjuster screws are marked L and R and can not be interchanged side to side. Cheers. |

Re: 72 C-10 Help
I have to get the E brake cable yet the short shoe is facing the front and the longer one is in the back I'm redoing all the brake lines so no line is hooked up yet would a smaller adjuster work ?

Quote:
Do not substitute a different adjuster. There is no telling how it will operate the star wheel. Also, use some cleaner to get the finger prints off the inside of the drum. Brake squeal can be unnerving.

Re: 72 C-10 Help
Not trying to beat you up, but to have a "complete" new brake job, you need to have your drums turned/trued.

Re: 72 C-10 Help
Have those drums measured. If within spec, have them machined.. Install all the proper hardware. Retract the adjusters all the way and the drums should then properly fit.

Re: 72 C-10 Help
Right! Even the original drums should fit. Find that problem before you have the drums turned. Something isn't right.

Re: 72 C-10 Help
What is your plan to get at the adjuster wheel? I was thinking of cutting a hole in the back plate for mine.

Re: 72 C-10 Help
The max diameter is listed on the outside of the drum, it shows in the pictures of this thread. I’m not an expert by any means, if that is not correct then someone please correct me.

No E-brake? The cross bar seems to be missing. Post #5.
Yes, that part is only for the rears and is on 1/2T and 3/4T trucks. |

The park brake will not work without those struts.
