Rewebbing Seat Belts

Im wanting to get some 1967 C10 seat belts rewebbed. Don't need anything done with the buckles/chrome, as they are all in good shape, just need the new nylon. What is the typical cost to get something like that done and where is a good place to get it done?

Ok, I saw that thread earlier, but I was under the impression he only cleaned/dyed existing webbing, didn't know he replaced webbing.

I do clean & restore. But they can also be sent out for new webbing. I don’t do that myself. It takes a special machine to sew belts. The place I use is safety restore. They charge per pair, male and female is a pair. It’s $100 per pair. So if you have 2 retractors and the buckles, that’s 2 pairs, $200. Plus the shipping back & forth.

It’s easy for people to assume I’m a guy, lol. After all you don’t find too many women that enjoy working on these old trucks. But I grew up helping my Dad work on the old cars. He worked at GM for 30 years, and I worked in an auto factory for 30 years myself. It wasn’t GM though, but I’ve been around cars & trucks my whole life.

So what color are the belts you are wanting rewebbed? Are you sure they need rewebbed? Really the only time it needs done is if your changing colors, or the belts are frayed/cut. I can usually get just about anything cleaned and looking better.
Except the Parchment, they usually have to be redone. It’s hard getting all the stains out of those, being as light as they are.

On one end, the stitching has come out... and im also changing the color from green to red.

Might be better to start with a Red set, because the retractor housing and buckle covers will need changed to red also. That way if they ever get scratched, the green doesn’t show. But if they are already red, that won’t be a problem.

The 67 seat belts I have don't have retractors, wish they did, but I guess it works out better for me since im having to get them rewebbed.

And very very expensive. People think I’m expensive, but I don’t come close to what these guys charge. I got an estimate several years ago before I started learning about restoring seatbelts. To restore the belts for my 86, they quoted me $1500!
That complete front & rear set that I posted above was the most anyone has paid. And that’s a big set, plus I supplied the belts for them. They all got new webbing and all the hardware was restored. The total was barely over $1000, and that’s including a lot of shipping. To & from the webbing place, and final shipping the belts to him. No other set of belts have come close to that amount, it was a rare one because of the amount of belts involved.

Over 20 years ago, I had a set of seat belts done by SSnake Oyl and it was very expensive then. The quality of the job was not comparable with the price.

That’s who is use when they need new webbing. Most places will not do belts that are older than the 90’s, but they do.

That's good info, Thanks for sharing it TKCR. Having belts cleaned or rewebbed is somethign that we don't usually think about until there we are with dirty and or damaged belts on a fresh build.

Your welcome. Worse case senecio is new webbing, especially if they are cut, badly frayed or so stained that it won’t come out. New webbing is alway nice, it’s new lol. But unfortunately it can get a little pricey, and some people refuse to spend a lot of money on safety. They will drop thousands on a engine, paint or even wheels & tires. I’m one of them, lol. When I got that quote back from SsnakeOyls, I about crapped my pants, $1500! And this was at least 8 years ago.
So there are alternatives, along with new webbing. But I wouldn’t pay what SsnakeOyls wants, but they are in the business to make money. I’m actually surprised to see them mentioned again. I would have sworn that they went out of business not long after I got my quote. People were saying they could not be reached, and the website had been taken down.
I just did a set of belts for someone, and it was just best to start over with a better set of belts. I’ve been able to make huge improvements to a set of belts, but even I have limits. I’m not Jesus, that can preform miracles, and that’s what this set needed! Could they have been restored? Absolutely. But when someone doesn’t want to spend a lot of money, which these would have taken with repair parts and new webbing. So the alternative was another set, which I had, and those got cleaned & restored for him.
