I have seen this done with a apache style hood but not this style. I wonder what the side looks like.

I am really confused by my reaction to that! I am not sure if I love it or hate it. I think I kind of like it! I think it would look better if the vents were smoothed over on the "bumper". I would do this on front and a roll pan on the rear.

I think it makes the truck look lower in the front, without actually lowering the suspension.

It would be a lot stronger, than the plastic bumper covers on modern cars.

Except that's just it... the plastic bumper covers are just that... covers. Is there a bumper structure behind this? Is this just a cover?

Probably not a structure underneath, just the metal hood fascia.

I'm sure that some heavy pipe or plate could be welded the frame horns, where the original bumper mounts.

The repro bumpers don't offer much protection either.
