Can I eliminate heater hose couplers on firewall.
I have already replaced one of them on my 02 Silverado the other one has a slight drip and will need to be replaced. Can I eliminate these? It seems like they get stuck easily anyways.

Yes. I’ve seen many with just the hose and clamp with no leaks.

They also get hard an break. I believe the aftermarket ones may be of a better material.
The came about because it took to long to assemble the squeeze clamps. Mine, on my Silverado, lasted 20 years before they broke. If you have to take them apart plan on replacing them or bypassing them as Evrlet suggested. |

Mine were on there for at least the ten years that I owned the truck.

Re: Can I eliminate heater hose couplers on firewall.
had one of the plastic ones fail on me on the way to work, it wasn't pleasurable... But I can't complain, it had 301k miles on it. Anyway, I prefer to the use metal ones now and keep a plastic spare in the glovebox (with the removal tool).

Re: Can I eliminate heater hose couplers on firewall.
The heater core is aluminum.
I'd be worried about galvanic corrosion between the Aluminum and Stainless. I would think that 6063 aluminum would be a good material for these fittings but you can't beat just jamming the hose over the end of the heater tube without the fitting.
