68 column swap questions

I have a 1968 Chevy C 20 and I was wondering if I could put my 1993 silverado automatic steering column in it and how hard would it be?

Re: 68 column swap questions

The columns are a lot wider, so the mounting would have to be redone. Not sure if it would even work without cutting up the factory bezel a lot. You'll also have to rewire the column, either go with the dash ignition switch, or eliminate it and use the one in the column. Either way good bit of rewiring. I do not remember if the column shift iss mechanical or by wire in the later column.

Re: 68 column swap questions

Finding a used 67-72 column (non-tilt is cheaper and probably easier to find. For tilit, you can look for stock but many are using the IDIIT column or other aftermarket brands. My turck is 3 on the tree, so I have what I have.

EBay, marketplace or look in the for 67-72 sale portion of the board.
