Dark Saddle 73-74 Dye/Paint

Who makes the "best" interior dye?

I'll be needing the Dark Saddle color, sometimes just called Saddle, used in 73-74.

I see USA1 Industries has it. Not sure about SEM. Others?

I've had good luck with the USA1 dyes. Did a bunch of interior parts with it and it covers pretty well.

Same here with USA1 Industries. It’s literally the only place I purchase all my dyes for restoration.
And here are several items I used the 73-74 color on

What paint do you guys use for the metal interior parts, like the console and other metal trim?

It looks like the USA1 Industries dye is only for plastic and vinyl ?

Same dye. I’ve used it for the metal trim also.

I've never used dye. Does this scratch easily?

Not if it’s cleaned, prepped and applied correctly. And you can always add a few coats of SEM low luster clear. It adds the protection of a clear coat, but it’s not shiny because of it being Low Luster. If it does scratch, just spray a little in the cap and touch up. I dyed all my interior parts about 8-9 years ago. The only part I have ever had to touch up once, was my kick panel. Just a small area at that.

What products do you use for the prep and then how do you apply the dye?

The small blue bottle is SEM Soap, or you can use Dawn dish soap.
Vinyl Prep for the vinyl parts. Example, Dash & Visors
Plastic Prep for all the plastic parts. I use this step twice. Once with the green scotch pad. And then spray again and wipe with a tack free cloth.
Adhesive Promoter and follow with a light coat of the color. Let that flash.
Then light coats of color until you’re happy.

Then biggest and most important step is cleaning cleaning cleaning and then prep. It’s time consuming and costly with all the products needed. And most people skip this part because of the money & time it takes. So they just do a quick clean and start spraying the new color. And yes, it will look good at first, but it will scratch easy and start flaking off in no time.
