5.3 drivetrain into my '69 GMC 3/4 ton
Inherited an '06 silverado that has a salvage title. I don't want the truck, just the drivetrain and the seats.
Has anyone put a 5.3L into a '69?? Is there like a conversion kit or something?? I understand that I should transfer everything. All computers, wiring, OBD II, pretty much everything. Thanks. Last edited by desert-rat; 04-17-2023 at 03:33 PM. |

Re: 5.3 drivetrain into my '69 GMC 3/4 ton
I am currently building a 1970 with a 5.3L. Fired it up yesterday for the first time in 5 years. I used the old inline six engine perches with an LSX adapter from ebay. Fit perfect. I used the 6L80E as well. Will be at C10 Nationals in May. I might have some pics from an old thread on here.

Moved your thread to The LSx Swaps Forum. That is where the LS swaps are discussed. LockDoc, Moderator

Re: 5.3 drivetrain into my '69 GMC 3/4 ton
To answer your question, YES many people have put a 5.3 in a 67-72 truck. I am currently putting a 5.3 in my 72. There isn't really a so-called "kit", but there is a TON of information here and over on ls1tech.com. It's good you have the whole truck to start with. You can pull many of the components you need from it, mainly the engine, accessories, pcm, and harness. Yours is probably drive by wire so you will need the throttle pedal and TAC module as well. The items I listed here are what I started with for my swap. Everything else is either reused from your original C10 or pieced together with aftermarket parts. The sky is the limit as far as how much you want to modify these parts. I am trying to stay budget minded so I am leaving things as original as possible and reusing everything that I can, even down to little things like vacuum lines, radiator hoses, etc.

Holley makes a complete kit to put the LS engines into your truck.
One thing you need to determine is if the crank has a 24 tooth or 58 tooth reluctor wheel. If its a 24 tooth you need one ECM for engine and trans control. If it's a 58 tooth and you going to run an auto you need A ECM and TCM. Couple of build pics. |
