Door noise
I have a 71 Jimmy and the doors rattle a lot. Is this normal? I have had all the rubber seals and window seals changed out. I keep the windows rolled down all the time and it seems like the windows move around a lot inside the drivers door at least. I guess my man question is, is the window movement inside the door when it is rolled down normal?

Re: Door noise
you probably need to replace the felt runners in the window tracks....
they get brittle and fall apart thereby allowing the window to move around in the track. Also replace the felt strip and rubber strip at the top of the door. check the regulator as well, they wear out over time

Re: Door noise
By the vent window and main window division bar, there is a span of sheet metal brace down inside the door just below the window slot, shaped somewhat like a U, that holds the outer door a fixed distance from the inner door. They are often broken and it causes the window slot to be too wide. For mine I bent a piece of sheet metal into a U shape, squeezed the door inner and outer panels together to close the broken joint, and pushed my patch U up onto the broken piece, JB-welding it into place. I did this when I had the glass and vent window out for refurbishment.
In 1972 trucks this prone-to-break door reinforcement is addressed by better design where a screw goes through the door at that location. |

Re: Door noise
I thought my windows were rattling too. But the culprit(s) were. Get this, the glass in the passenger side view mirror. And secondly the door latch controls. The spring were broke and caused rattling. With the mirror and interal door latch controls replaced I'm rattle free, as far as the doors are concerned anyway. Anyhow, check them out, might be an easier fix.
