Rarest----my vote is for a TRULY rust free truck!! I bought one from southern calif 5 years ago----front clip, cab, bed---no rust. Now---got a silver dollar hole right through the bed floor next to the pass tailgate pillar. Seems that even in a dry climate, sand gets blown between the rear bed support and the bed floor. Once it gets wet----wellllllllllll

The rarest of the rare would be either a 67 GMC 4X4 Panel, or a 67 Chevy 4X4 Panel. Either one of those are in the single digits I think. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Don't forget the 9' stepside trucks. They are pretty rare. Dunno know full production numbers though. Did they make a 4x4 9' stepside?

How about the cowel models They were discontinued after 68? Less than 100/year were produced I think. My vote would be a 4X4 Panel.

1970 2wd Blazer. I know the production #'s were the lowest of Blazers. Or 1970 2wd Jimmy.

RARE
I know a guy who has a '68 3/4 ton 4wd panel with a factory optioned front locker. The '68 is rare by itself and I have never seen a front locker called out on the glove box tag before. All original, waiting restoration.

There are also no factory 1 ton 4x4s. The general didn't start makin em until 1977. However, my vote for rarity would go to a NAPCO 4x4 conversion done on a one ton chassis. True, it isn't factory, but its still damn cool, and almost original. I've only seen 2 67-72's with this conversion done so far. As for options, I agree with J.Lance...pretty rare. although I am not sure if it is a front locker or posi. I think its posi, as I remember somebody with a Blazer and a front positraction axle listed on the RPO sheet. I'm guessing it is a Spicer trak-lok, or power-lok. this option is rarer than towhooks, but towhooks are a specialty item...you can go buy a brand new d44 posi, but not hooks.

There was a 4x4 burb for sale around here last year for like $800, looked really good in the pics, was stored under a shelter and looked like it'd been there a long time.
My panel is about to be 3/4-1 ton 4x4... Going to be pretty unique, havn't found any production numbers on the IH panels that new, and this one is a V8, a/c, auto tranny truck. Still contemplating keeping it 2wd, but it's a bit too tempting to make it heavier so I can haul with it, especially since 4x4 for it is completely bolt on with no fabrication required. Almost rust free with is extremely rare with the old IH full sized rigs. As far as rust free goes, my brothers '72 cheyenne swb (the 40k original mile truck, now going on 45k miles) looks really really nice now, just got out of the shop and I need to post those pictures... looks brand new even up close from the outside. Inside doesn't look new, but is in good shape. My '70 is a lot more beat up but it actually is an unrestored rust free. The idiot guy caked bondo over some dents, but there isn't any rust under the bondo. Need to get it taken off and pull the dents back out. It now has 71k miles on it. GM underdash a/c unit, which apparently is rarer than the four seasons unit. I've never seen another and only found one other person on here before who said they'd seen one. Not really on topic, but speaking of rare vehicles I indirectly know the guy who just purchased the last scout produced by IH before the line shut down. |

Look at the thread by Bob Chayer entitled Lets Have Pictures of Burbs on the 67-72 Suburban forum. The first photo is one Bob owns, at '71 4WD C10 with 3/4 ton front and real axels.

I'm not sure but I think I rember that some 66-67? models may have included the windshied frame but by 68 it was just the front end sheet metal with no windshield frame.

Hmmm front lockers....I wonder if you mistook front locking hubs which may have been abbreviated to front lock perhaps. Option F76.
