Turn signal lever with cruise???

I am replacing my turn signal/wiper/cruise lever on my 1987 Siverado. It has a tilt column. Has anyone done this before? Any help is appreciated? Thanks!

I did it a few years ago on my '84,
I went with a newer model stalk than what came on my truck 'cause I liked the look better.
It was not that hard to do.

i just replaced the one on my 91 on Saturday. the only tricky part is to snake the wire down through the column. i dismantled the column go make doing so easier.

Ok, I guess I need to be more specific. How do I remove the turn signal lever? What plastic column pieces need to be removed and how, to access the lever. How is the lever attached to the switch? Do I need special service tools for this?
With a quick glance tonight I didn't see any screws holding any plastic together to expose the lever mounting point. Which service manual do you use?

Remove your steering wheel and go in that way, you will need a lock ring compressor once you get into the steering column to remove the lock ring. It can be done without the tool, but trust me, it is a lot easier with it. Once you get the lever loose, take the four bolts out that are holding your steering column up under the dash, and let it hang down. The tricky part is "fishing" the wire back through the column.

To remove the lever its self, you just pull it out. Simple. But with cruise, you have to feed the wire through the column.

Make shure you attach the wire to the hole on the end of the connector of the old unit before you remove it or your job will be almost inpossible.

That's a good illistration there but it show's the wheel removed and someone else mentioned removing it but you DON'T have to remove it to perform this task and if you ues some masking tape to wrap around the connector to form a bullet shape it makes reinstallation much easier.

That is a scan from my Helm's manual. The wheel is off for illustration purposes. No, you don't have to take the wheel off to replace the turn signal lever.

Yes, just hook the wire to the connector on the old unit as Bruce says. Then pull it out, hook the wire to the new one and fish it down through the column.

you dont HAVE to remove it, bit IMO its alot easier if you do.

I believe on that style you push in a little and then twist it to align locking tab to come out , then pull out. Put a wire attached to the cruise wiring, tape it together, so when you pull it out you can then pull the new cruise wire back through the column with out taking things apart... can be done.

I haven't completed it yet but Jerry Moss looked at the new lever and said it should pull right out. I gave it a little tug, which I was afraid to do before and it popped right out. He suggested I attach a string to the old cruise wire before pulling it out and use the string to pull the new one back through. I could finally see the pics today and now understand you were pretty much trying to tell me the same thing. I was just alittle confused about what you meant by "attach the wire". With the information of everyone on this board I think I'll be able to do it without breaking anythig. Good information is priceless! Thanks.

If you use string get some of the high strength stuff so it wont beake when you are pulling the wire thru or you will be useing alot of cuss words.

I prefer the use of .025 safety wire.
