Holley Street Dominator 300-36 Intake help
I've googled the sh!t out of this and can't really find a an answer that just tells me no. So I come to the masses all here in one location.
Could someone that can put their hands on a SBC Holley 300-36 intake, do me a huge favor and confirm the flat spot on the drivers side can be drilled out to a 1-1/4" hole to accept a oil fill tube? Or is the spot too thin or in the wrong spot? (pic borrowed from the internet) From what I've read and can tell by pics, I feel like the Holley is the best balance for performance while still keeping the look of a 60's/70's build. Thanks!! |

Re: Holley Street Dominator 300-36 Intake help
The two attached pics will show you the area on the original manifolds was not only much thicker, the hole for the oil fill tubs was angled away from the engine and angled towards the drivers side of the engine to allow clearance for the upper radiator hose.
The Holley manifold lacks the depth of casting in that area. While nothing is impossible to fabricate, I can't see how this are would ever support the tube correctly. Edelbrock used to make a Torquer manifold with the oil fill tube capability... Perhaps check out this one from Jegs https://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350...yABEgL3n_D_BwE

Re: Holley Street Dominator 300-36 Intake help
Thanks for the reply! That's what was afraid of.
I have a RPM and I know it's a great intake but unfortunately for me, it just doesn't go with the style of build I'm working on. I might have to bite the bullet and spend way too much money on a mediocre performing z28 intake with a square bore adapter. |

Re: Holley Street Dominator 300-36 Intake help
Go talk to a welding shop and explain what you want. That oil fill tube really doesn't need much support. The OEM is thick because it was a press fit. The welding shop might be able to braze a fill tube into your thinner manifold.
From your pic, that bolt hole look like it sits in the normal oil fill pad and might have to be removed, with the hope that under there isn't a void that opens to either water, air or engine. Might have to risk ruining a manifold to try the experiment. |

Re: Holley Street Dominator 300-36 Intake help
As far as I can remember the 300-36 are aluminum manifolds and a typical thin cast units.
As far as brazing the tube in there...perhaps I missed some advances but I didnt think you could braze aluminum. BTW. reviews on these 300-36 manifolds are not that great, but that's a whole new discussion. There are several new off the shelf manifolds with the oil fill hole in the standard early series location.... https://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350...yABEgL3n_D_BwE

But an off the shelf ready to go old school look manifold would be best. If there is one that meets OP's engine plans. |

Re: Holley Street Dominator 300-36 Intake help
My 90's LT1 engine had the gmpp aluminum intake.
I added a oil fill for panache. Depending on how your manifold is constructed. You made do so sort of step, but a 1/2 inch hole will allow enough draining. DM with a email of you want a pic or two. |

Re: Holley Street Dominator 300-36 Intake help
Aluminum brazing is becoming more popular. I never saw it growing up.
We just used a brass-like brazing rod for steel and copper fabrication. But it seems to be getting popular with even Home Depot selling Bernzomatic supplies to do it. Quote:

Re: Holley Street Dominator 300-36 Intake help
Well did you install a fill tube in the Holley manifold? I’m considering doing the same for the same reason on an old 327.
