1968 Dash Harness Question

I discovered something odd on a 68. The fuse box has the main harness coming out of the left side. The American Autowire harness I bought, (#33915), has the harness coming out the top.

I thought I got the wrong one but it specifically says it's for a 67-68. What's weird is that AAW's 69-72 harness, (#30100), shows the harness coming out the side like the 68 I have. The fuse layout is the same but it's upside down.

Is it possible that I have a late build and they started using the 69 harnesses in 68? I suppose it's possible that the harness was changed out but I have my doubts. It looks very aged and original.

How can I tell what the build date is without a build sheet?

EDIT:

Been doing some research. The rear end has E118 casting date. I'm gonna guess that's May 11, 1968. Fairly late in the model year.
The transmission is a TH400 with these #'s on the tag: 546 at the top right. At the bottom: CT-68-77380. The 546 is the Julian date, which didn't make sense until I saw a reference stating the date codes started January the year before. So that would make a Julian date of 181 or June 29, 1968. Close to the rear end cast date.

Another possibility is that as part of the ramp up to the new model year trucks they tested the installation of the style new harnesses with your truck.

Or there was a warranty issue with the original harness and the dealer replaced the bad one with a newer one.

These are things you need a time machine to know for sure.

Damnyankee36, here is a look at the fuse block in my 68 C10. I will admit this is a new harness/fuse block, but it is identical to the one I removed. The view is as if you were looking up from the floor. I know you will probably ask, that rod connecting to the clutch pedal is the actuator rod for the hydraulic clutch master cylinder. I have noticed when looking at various 68 C10s, that the orientation of the fuse block varies. Some fuse blocks are horizontal, others are vertical. I do not know why that is unless it was how one assembly plant did it versus another. Mine was mounted horizontally from the factory with the original harness, so that is how I installed the new one.

Mine was Mar 1968. I will have to go look at the plate for the exact date, but I do know it was Mar.

My '68 was built in May and in Fremont, CA. The fuse panel is horizontal with the wire bundle exiting on the long side (top).

mine comes out the top, and is the original one and was made in St. Louis.

My 1968 was built in Fremont CA, in October 1967, and the harness comes out of the top of the fuse box.

I'm late but thought I'd update.

I have 2 1968... One of them an October 1967 Fremont truck like ZEKE68 and it comes out the top.

The other is a later Janesville build and it also comes out the top.
