Stainless bumper bolts non-capped

Anyone have a source of non-capped bumper bolts?

Re: Stainless bumper bolts non-capped

I’d like to do a “no mounting bolts” bumper.

You could try McMasters for the stainless bumper bolts. Just a thought.

Most of the resto parts houses sell these. I've seen them plain and fully chromed. Unfortunately, these are the best out there, since the hi-dome bumper bolts widely available now are not stainless steel capped like original.

Re: Stainless bumper bolts non-capped

I am pretty sure I bought mine off Ebay. I went back and looked and see I have 7/16-14 x 1-1/4" stainless carriage bolts on my previously purchased list. I buffed them up a bit to make them pretty, but that was all.

Re: Stainless bumper bolts non-capped

I bought Stainless steel carriage bolts at ACE hardware sanded and polished them . If your looking for original then the aftermarket vendors are about your only option

Not looking for original, just want something to look good and not rust.

The ones 1970cstblazer pictures are the best I have found. They look exactly like the ones at the top of Orange Crate's picture.

I came to suggest these, which are the same:
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/gmk-4140001471

Or the Keyparts BBC4787
https://www.ebay.com/itm/114169817645

Just a note on bumpers and bolts. I always use an over size washer between the bumper and the bumper bracket. The washer reduces the chance of you dimpling the bumper as you tighten the bumper bolt.

LS Short Box. That's the truth.... go look at the rear bumper on this truck on Bring A Trailer - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...10-pickup-116/

They wrecked that rear bumper.

Bumper bolts are a pet peeve of mine. It sets the tone for the entire truck. Using the right design of these shows attention to detail, plus they look a whole lot better than the flat generic bolts that are over-used.

What are flat generic bolts?
Are you referring to finishing bolts and washers?

Wink Re: Stainless bumper bolts non-capped

If you compare common bumper bolts with the original style, the original has a much steeper profile, or "high dome" design. They are easy to see from 50 feet away.

Hey, thanks for this. I have yet to install my bumpers for the last time. I have had them on for fitting and alignment but have had both off again for other things (front Hickey winch, bracket painting ect). I appreciate the heads up.

Re: Stainless bumper bolts non-capped

The original bumper bolts were made of regular carbon steel and had a stainless "cap" formed onto the head. It could be that this isn't what Warrens69GMC was referring to though. The term "cap" is also used in technical fastener lingo to refer to the head of the bolt, such as "Socket Head Cap Screw".

Matter of opinion I guess. I do not like those high dome bolts.

That's exactly what I was referring to. I have new painted bumpers, and was thinking of new bolts as i had to cut my old ones off. In the future, I would like to get chrome bumpers, then polish the stainless.

Then I'm confused about why you wouldn't want them to be capped, because that is the stainless part. Wouldn't you want to make sure they are capped with stainless steel?

Ones I have sold while at the parts store felt cheap and the bolts themselves would rust as the main bolt were just steel.

He doesn't want the capped style carbon steel bolts. He wants a full SS bolt to keep from possibly having to cut rusty steel bolts off again.
72C20 shows a full SS carriage bolt that he picks up from Ace hardware, then polishes the head. When going back together I use anti seize on all bumper bolts, regardless of steel type.
