Backup lights
Where’s the best place to start for troubleshooting backup lites. Mounted a 72 2 x4 cab on a 71 4x4 chassis. Lites worked I believe before swap. I’m thinking problem originating in steering column but not sure. Originally a turbo 350 now a turbo 400

Re: Backup lights
Column shift?? Quick and easy troubleshoot.. Disconnect the 2 wire plug at the B/U switch. Using a bent paperclip or other suitable short piece of wire, jumper across the 2 terminals. Turn on the ignition switch and if the B/U lights come on, the problem lies with the switch.. Could need a simple adjustment.. If the lights don't come on, check voltage starting at the fuse box and move toward the lights themselves.

Re: Backup lights
I just had this issue when I replaced mine last week. Make sure you have the metal piece from the column in the switch slot. It was hard for me to get it lined up and put in the tiny bolts at the same time. Then Leave the little tiny bolts snug enough where you can slide the switch in the oblong bracket holes but it stays put when you move the shifter. Then it’s just trial and error to find the sweet spot for the reverse lights on and for the neutral start spot.
The bolts are tiny and hard to find the hole to screw in, all while holding the switch in the tight spot. It’s a test of patience. Helps if you have a med depth socket and a flex head ratchet. |
