My Journey from a Cheyenne To Super!
I been slowly upgrading my 72 Cheyenne to a Super. Yesterday I completed this after pulling my fenders to install the missing Hinge Pillar to Fender Seals and getting Repo'ed Super badges installed. When I finally decided to pull the fenders for the seals, this is when I decided going the "Super" upgrade. Since if I was going to pull the fenders, why not put the Super badge on too?
Before pulling the fenders I upgraded my dash with Wood Grain cluster (a repo) and glovebox with woodgrain and 72 Super Badge (donor from eBay). I had already put on a chrome handle when I needed to replace my tailgate. It isn't a chrome cover, which would be correct for a '72 but a full chrome handle (correct for '71). I got a new SPID, so it would be RPO YE9 for Cheyenne Super. I am very happy to have this done. I hope you guys think I did okay with my upgrade :-) Some reference threads: Post a real Cheyenne Super only (aka the defiinitive Cheyenne Super thread)! Jeff Lampe Chevy Truck SPID Labels - Classic Chevy Trucks Rebuilding / Installing Hinge Pillar to Fender Seal* Fender Removal cheyenne-10 & super emblem location *Note: Cheyenne (and other higher end trims) should have the seals that I needed to install. However, when my truck went through its restore about 20 years ago they were not put back on after the body/paint work (all the screw holes were present). It can also be a sign that a truck has been updated to a higher trim then how it came from the factory. Meaning if a truck doesn't have the "Hinge Pillar to Fender Seals" you could get questions about your trim level being faked.

Re: My Journey to a Cheyenne To Super!
Didn't the Cheyenne (non Super) trucks also come with those fender seals? I know my 72 C20 did, but I did not bother with replacing them even I also added Super trim. Perhaps factory added mine by mistake.

Re: My Journey to a Cheyenne To Super!
Yes, they did. Mine went through a restore about 20 years ago and they were not re-installed.
If you visited my “Seal” thread you can see my photos where the screw holes were present :-)

Re: My Journey to a Cheyenne To Super!
It’s a factory color, called medium bronze :-)
I also like it, since it is close to burnt orange - Go UT Longhorns!

Re: My Journey to a Cheyenne To Super!
Wasn’t the lower trim on the Supers wood grain instead of black?

The lower trim is woodgrain, here is a photo that shows it on my truck.

Re: My Journey to a Cheyenne To Super!
YAY - Finally got a hit on my saved eBay/Emailing search for a Woodgrain Bezel. It's coming from Canada. The Woodgrain is in pretty good shape, though the chrome is a bit rough. I have only really seen these originals in worse shape that have been for sell and I don't even see those come up very often!
With it shipped to me here in Texas, $79 total - so a okay deal I think (the shipping was more than the bezel's cost). It will match the Glove Box Applique that pulled and installed sometime back.

Re: My Journey to a Cheyenne To Super!
Well, I put in the original Super Woodgrain Bezel that I got off from Canada, via eBay.
While the chrome is rather aged, the woodgrain is in pretty darn good condition. I believe it is a keeper.

Re: My Journey to a Cheyenne To Super!
Beautiful truck. I’ve kinda done the same thing with my 70 Custom/10.
Along the years, I added PS/PB, Tilt Steering column, a Tach dash, a Headliner, Bucket seats with the console, and the rear sliding window. As you did, I used only GM Factory Original parts to upgrade my truck. I could put the CST/10 emblems on but decided not t. I’ll probably get another SPID list made, with all my upgrades, to put in the glovebox, but I’ll keep the original in place. Your truck is the first time I’ve seen the Buddy Buckets in a 71/72. |

Re: My Journey to a Cheyenne To Super!
Thank you!
Luckily the truck was already a Cheyenne, so taking it up to Super isn't all that much more. Getting it done, well that isn't a walk in the park! The more I look at the original bezel, the more I like it over the reproduction ones I have used. Now that it is installed on the truck, the worn off chrome doesn't seem that bad and blends better with the interior. As for the Buddy seats, the previous owner did that and I believe he spent a pretty penny for them. About all I did on the seats was install the jack instructions in the center compartment and the bar that does behind the center backseat on the cab. Clearly they aren't right for this year truck but I do love them :-)

Re: My Journey to a Cheyenne To Super!
I did almost the same process with my 72 C20, It also was a factory Cheyenne, but I added the Super trim pieces, and additionally AM/FM, Sliding back glass, and a few other odds and ends, such as headers, some engine chrome, and a color matching raptor liner in the bed. Mine is a big block truck, th400, dana 60 powerloc, Ford 16x7 wheels replacing those 16.5s and easier to locate decent tires that ride much better. It has just over 62,000 miles, but it had sat in a field for about 40 years. The years of weather took a toll, and even though it was a southern truck, it needed some rust repair. Also white, and medium bronze, and I also get a lot of questions if that is indeed the factory color (almost did a color change, but decided against).
