Outer lock nut torque 85 K20

I’m getting conflicting torque specs for the outer lock nut on the front hub . Some say 160-200 ft lbs and others say 60-75 ft lbs . I don’t have a shop manual but my procedure was spin the hub as I torqued it to 50 ft lbs . Backed it off and torqued to 35 and backed it off about a little to line up the pin up to the lock washer . Installed and torqued the outer to 75ft lbs but I’m thinking maybe that’s to loose ?

Should I take it apart and retorque ?

Re: Outer lock nut torque 85 K20

What you did should work just fine. I usually range any where from 35-50 final torque depending on how everything feels, and the axle I’m working on. The outer nut should be fine at 70.

What you done sounds good.

I hope you greased or replaced the Inner spindle bearing while you had it apart.

Picture for Reference.

I did not the front axle was rebuilt before I bought it . I guess when I do the other side I’ll pull the spindle and look at it . Not even sure I’ll have to replace anything on the passenger side . Everything was well greased on the driver side but the cup was spinning . So it may be just a repack

Re: Outer lock nut torque 85 K20

Never use the 4 wheel drive so the axle is never spinning . But now you got me thinking . I just ordered new axle spindle bearings and the OTC 7502 spindle tool . Guess I’ll be changing them out .
