Aftermarket Steering Column Recommendations?
Working on my 63 c10. It uses a power steering box from a 1972 with the CPP kit. The bearings, turn signal switch etc are shot in my column. I was considering just changing out to an aftermarket column but it seems hard to chose the right one at the right price.
Anyone have recommendations? Ididit seems a little pricey but the ebay ones seem questionable. Also, I noticed most aftermarket columns us the double D shape. How Would I mate that to the 72 steering box? Current rag joint just has provisions for a round shaft. Thanks. |

Re: Aftermarket Steering Column Recommendations?
Changing the bearings and fixing the turn signals are pretty straight forward. Unless you want tilt or chrome, I’d consider rebuilding the stock column. There are several options for the rag joint and telescoping steering shaft. Borgesson makes some nice universal joints with dampening that really tighten up the steering box connection.

I went with a CPP universal 30". Black, tilt, no shifter.

Re: Aftermarket Steering Column Recommendations?
In my 64 I am using an ididit w/column shifter and tilt, borgeson DD collapsible shaft #450024, 3/4 DD to 3/4 30 spline u joint on one end, 3/4 DD to 1" 36 spline u joint on other end.
Got away from the rag joint all together. I have column shift so my steering column was a little more pricey than the floor shift ones. You can get the floor shift ididit columns for around $500 or just under. Mine was around $700 then add in everything else like the gear indicator that screws on top of the column, the collapsible shaft, u joints and cruise control turn signal stalk and steering wheel I was close to 1k or maybe a little under. Pricey but after driving it the last year and 6k miles I think it was worth the price. U-joints got almost all the slop out of steering, might have 1/2" play side to side while driving.

Re: Aftermarket Steering Column Recommendations?
Did you have to get the "D" shaft adapter or did it work with the original ragjoint?
