steering box spline size??
Trying to swap an aftermarket column into my 63 C10. It has a power steering box from a 1971 or 72 that I put on years ago. The new column is double D style so I ordered a D to 3/4"-36 adapter thinking that would be the one. When I popped the old rag joint off, the steering box spline looked different than I had thought. It has too flat sides so it is tough to count the splines but it measures around .800 and the adapter definitely doesn't fit. Any ideas what I'm looking at? Thanks

Re: steering box spline size??
I put what was reported to be a 81 2wd suburban box in and the joint I used was 3/4 x 30
13/16x36 was too large FWIW my original '64 manual box is 3/4-36 and the rag joint that was on the early 70s column I initially used was also 3/4-36 . Last edited by leegreen; 10-25-2024 at 06:26 PM. |

Seemed like that might be the case so I ordered one before I saw your reply. I didn't see any with dampners. I was also thinking about drilling for a pin or bolt on the column side, unless that is supposed to be free to slide. It's an amazon column and didn't come with any instructions.

Not sure on your column so will not comment about the pin.

Re: steering box spline size??
Cannot say for sure. Box I used is for 68-76 2wd. I think it was the same as my original 4wd box. Just to note, the factory tilt column is 3/4"x 36 spline.
Edit- The PSC box (what I used) for 80-93 2wd or 4wd with crossover is listed as 3/4"x 30 spline
