Another new guy

Hello. Thought I'd introduce my daughter's latest acquisition. She bought this '72 K10 about three months ago and we thought we might freshen it up a bit.
When we went to pick it up it started, drove and stopped well. And the body seemed nice and straight with just a few rust spots that we thought we could handle. The idea was to make a daily driver out of it, not a show truck.
When we got it home my intent was to check the brakes and U-joints first. Took the right rear wheel and drum off and the lining fell off the shoes in pieces. That resulted in a complete brake job where we found that the e-brake lines looked liked they'd been through a grinder.
We ended up pulling the motor, a Mr Goodwrench crate with unknown miles on it. Compression was good and even throughout all cylinders and scoping the cylinders showed little or no wear. I mic'd the bearings and found them to be within factory specs so we left the crank and head alone. We put in a new camshaft, lifters, gears and chain, intake manifold, carb and headers with all new exhaust, then set about cleaning up the engine bay. New battery tray and inner fender wells, hours in the bead blast cabinet and lots of paint later you can see where we ended up.
Worked our way through a myriad of issues, like no wipers, no dome light, no backup lights, faulty turn signals, and discarded about 200' of wiring that went where only the Shadow knows.
Put in a 2 1/2" lift, repaired the drive shaft, new U-joints and next she goes in for tires and wheels.
Like CCR said, what a long strange trip it's been.
Looking forward to learning more about this truck, especially why so many parts listed for a '72 don't fit this truck (more on that later).
In the meanwhile, here she is and hoping I might be able to offer some ideas on how we worked through some of our problems.

The only K series mechanical changes during model year 1972 that I am aware of that would be the same for 1973-up had to do with the front axles/axle u-joints/seals, which were all enlarged mid year. 1971 saw many engineering changes over the previous years, including front disc brakes, finned rear drums, and cable accelerator controls.
