Rotisserie Question

I'm looking at a 3000lb rated rotisserie for my 1966 GMC Suburban 4x4. Found a used one for $1200 4 hrs away and the same model new for $1500 (plus tax and shipping). Thinking it would cost at least $1000 for material to build one. The complete vehicle is close to 4500-5000lbs so just the body should be less than 3000lbs. Does that sound right?

Re: Rotisserie Question

I found another rotisserie close by. I’m not sure it is tall enough to rotate the suburban. Does anyone know what dimensions I would need to be sure it would rotate completely?

Re: Rotisserie Question

That one in your 2nd pic would never make a full revolution and there's no way to balance the body
That $1200 one isn't a bad price
I built my own..I think I've got around $500 in it
Here's some pics of it in action
You can see how high the pivot is on mine with the cab on it
I built in a adj so I could move the centerline to get it balanced
How high you need it depends ālot on where the center of gravity is with how you mount the body

Re: Rotisserie Question

Mongocanfly, yours looks nice and functional. Also like how much you have into it. Any chance you have any backup information, dimensions you would like to share?

Re: Rotisserie Question

I'll do some measuring on it..
I built it just by looking at pictures, so I don't know how close it is to a store bought one..
I had some of the odd and end stuff already..
Biggest expense I had was the 2 jack cyl. Caught those on sale at HF...and I had to buy 2 sticks of 2-1/2" tubing...they were proud of that..
And that's not counting my labor if I was charging myself for it..
Still say $1200 isn't a bad deal...I just couldn't find one close to me for sale..
