Gas gauge issues
Hello all,
72 C/10 350 mostly stock I am having some problems with my gas gauge. It show empty, I took it up and filled the tank, as near as I can tell, and it is still on empty. I have the key on and when I unhook the gas ga wire from the fuse block, the needle moves all the way over to past full. Is that telling me something? |

Re: Gas gauge issues
LockDoc, Thanks for the link. I will pick up a meter and give it a test.

Re: Gas gauge issues
Your description of the gauge behavior when you disconnect the wire indicates that the gauge itself is likely working correctly. If you end up removing your sender to test it, see if the float is full of fuel, which would cause it to sink to the bottom of a full tank.

Re: Gas gauge issues
Thanks PJ.
I finally got a a meter and gave everything a check. I think you're probably right. The gauge seems to be working, the wire from the sending unit to the fuse link is good. When I check the ohms on the gauge, I get 11.5, give or take on the ohms. I got everything hooked back up and the gauge reads approx 1/8 tank, so that would be pretty close to matching the ohms if 90 is a full tank. I'll get around to removing the sending unit when it warms up a bit here. Thanks again everyone! |
