Door lock issue - the door lock pops back up when slamming the door

Maybe odd maybe not but when I push the interior door locks down and slam the door then the locks pop back up and the door doesn't lock. Linkage, spring, something out of alignment and should I just try spraying it down with white lithium grease.

Freedom isn't safe, it requires you to take responsibility for your own life, your own safety, and your own success. It carries with it the possibility of failure and the understanding that you're working without out a safety net. If you give the state the responsibility for any of these you also give up the freedom that accompanies the responsibility.

The door unlocking when it is closed is normal operation for these trucks. Maybe a way to modify the operation. That is something I do not know.

I am getting old because I though for sure it was possible to lock they keys in these trucks.

I cannot remember for sure, but maybe if you hold the thumb button down while closing it may stay locked. Will try it out tomorrow.

These doors will not lock in this way. One can only cycle the lock from outside, if they are outside. One can lock the door from inside, of course.

Personally, I think this was one of GM's better clever designs. It's virtually impossible to accidentally lock your keys inside.

If you hold the button down while you try to close the door you may break something on the latch mechanism.

If I remember right, it does try to jam the mechanism

Re: Door lock issue - the door lock pops back up when slamming the door

I know some of the older doors work by holding the button down to allow closing while locked. I have not used a key to unlock a door since my teen years. Everything I have owned that did not come with PDL I added the feature with a remote. An alarm or stand alone module was used.

I remember vehicles like that, but it's been so many years ago that I can't remember which ones.

Amen to that.

Probably the best thing about having to lock the door from the outside beside not locking your key in is that causes you to walk around to the other side to open the door for the gal on the other side (unless she is a cowgirl who is already out and starting to do what needs to be done) and she thinks it is a big deal that you opened the door for her, same with opening it with the key when you walk up to the truck with her. That cowgirl will have already slid over and popped the door lock up so you can get in while she sits in the middle though.
