All I can remember is walking around the dealership with my "gastank settlement certificate" in my pocket and next thing I know.....................

Nice truck. I have heard that the 5.3's are pretty quick.

I bet it was hard to find a short bed standard cab with the 5.3. when I went looking for mine all I could find were 4wds. I really like my 02 silverado ext-cab shortbed 1500 lt . My 5.3 only has 290 hp. I get 18 mpg. I have on star I think it sucks. IF you try to use the phone the computer never hears you right. Chevy talk.com has a forum for 99 and up silverados.

Funny thing is, is that with about an extra $2000 you can have it as fast and maybe faster than your 86.

No ONSTAR or XM but the 5.3 in a shortbed sold me
Has anyone seen one of those EXTANG RT tonneau covers? I am looking for a nice tonneau, need opinions. FAST? Well if it's not fast enough for me I saw an article in Nov 2003 "Truckin" that has a MAGNA-CHARGER install on a 5.3. Power goes from 279hp/296tq to an awesome 403hp/415tq. As for being faster then my 86 with a 550cu....impossible I'll be looking to lower it 4/6 and keep the stock alloys on her for now.

Onstar? No thanks.
I read an article on foxnews.com recently about the FBI taping conversations inside a vehicle that had onstar. They could turn it on, listen in, and you wouldn't know it. Which would be good if your vehicle was stolen, but it still makes me leary.

AirMale-- I have a sport masters (???) vinyl tonneau cover for my '89 z71. the cover is easy to care for and to wash along with being very durable. it installs in under an hour and comes off in a matter of a few minutes.

you gotta spend the extra $ for a fiberglass tonneau. get a snuglid or topdeck. i am a installer for those and they fit great and easy to take off. DONT GET A LEER! trust me coming from an authorized dealer.

I'd look into a gaylords lid if you don't mind the extra cost.

Not crazy about the front end either but I bought it knowing that an Escalade front is in the future. As for tonneau covers, it has to be soft. I've owned both including snuglid and Gemtop GT classic. Both were of excellent workmanship and would highly reccomend both but I need to use the bed occasionally and hated finding someone to help remove the lid if neccessary. I've also started to research some drop kits

I think the frontend looks great compared to the 99-02s.
If I were to get one, I would build a SWB SS (like the Joe Gibbs Silverado).

Too bad Belltech spindles for the 99+ trucks increase your turning radius. I would recommend DJM, Hotchkis, and McGaughy's for the NBS trucks. This coming from what I've read and researched.
