Power steering pulley alignment?
Having some difficulty figuring this out. I'm working on a power steering conversion on a '65 C20 with a 283. My power steering pulley does not align with either pulley groove on the crank but a 3rd groove wouldn't help as you can see in the pics. Also the alternator belt now hits the power steering mounting bracket bolt. The first groove in the pulley for the crank and water pump aligns great with the alternator. It's just the power steering that is the issue. Any one have any suggestions? I really appreciate it!

Just a guess but maybe the ps pulley can be drawn in more.

Re: Power steering pulley alignment?
There was a add on pulley used for accesories with the short pump configuration. My old 327 that i bought many years ago, came out a 65 ss impala and had the add on pulley on it. Dont know if it is available on the aftermarket stuff, only other option would be a new crank pulley with more rows or adapting the brackets to move the pump in.
Cheers. Adriaan. |

Unfortunately, it's on as far as it will go.

Re: Power steering pulley alignment?
Can you run the alternator belt to the water pump only instead of the pump and crank?

Re: Power steering pulley alignment?
My 66 is using the front groove of a three groove crank pulley. Sencond for A/C and last, or inner, groove for alternator. What I noticed on your pump is the pulley. Mine is flat and it moves the belt forward to align with the front groove, unlike yours is recessed in toward the pump. The Number stamped on the pulley is 3925537DC

Re: Power steering pulley alignment?
The OP is using a "canned ham" power steering pump which I've not seen anyone use with a short pump before. Normally I see the round one like val1gonzales has in post #9. That's the one I use too.
