3 speed to 5 speed

Ok guys i just picked up a 78 c10 short bed 250 with a 3 speed manual. I am looking to put a 5 speed into it because the 3 speed is sticking. what trans will bolt up and work with little modification? what clutch do i use? thanks

The 88-98 trucks that were manual were 5 speed I believe. Thats probobly your best bet without spending a ton on an aftermarket tranny. Sorry, I dont have the model name of the tranny. Id guess M5 though.

They probobly use a hydraulic clutch though (yuck )

Ill see if I can dig up any more info.

I am looking for something bolt in that will work the same as the 3 speed. i could do a 4 speed but would liek to have an OD

Well... there were no manual trannys that had OD offered I our trucks. Or atleast im pretty dang sure. You can probobly find a muncie 4 speed, they were offered. But they just have better gearing than the 3 speed. They both have a 1:1 last gear.

Then there was the 4x4 and work truck 3 speed with low
I had an extra one, but it got ruined due to water, so it got sent to the junkyard.

i think i will get a muncie for the gearing i got a 355 rear so its not that bad

have you consider a s10 5 speed tranny i have heard of this swap in the older 55-72 trucks so it should work fine with the 6 banger in your truck
