Re: Union Pacific Steam Big Boy No. 4014 West-Coast Tour
This engine was on static display at the LA County Fair Grounds in Pomona CA. At the far edge of the ungated, at the time, parking lot. It was unsupervised, no fencing, or any restrictions to access of any kind. As kids in the 60s, my cousin and I would climb all over. In and out of the cab, on to the walkway out to the front. We would imagine driving the engine for hours. We would do similar activity at Travel Town in Griffith Park. Same unsupervised open access to the engines, and train cars, on display there. I imagine access to the equipment is not so open anymore. What memories.
