Light Problem

Im having trouble with the tail lights on my truck
I bought a new headlight switch and pluged it in but I didnt mount it in the dash I just left it hanging down under the dash to see if it would fix my problem. It did so then I mounted it in the dash and when I cut the lights on it blows the tail light fuse what to you guys think it is

This is probably not related to your problem but, I was having a problem with my taillights blowing fuses. It turned out to be the wire plug to the rear license-plate light had fallen off and was occasionally shorting-out on the body.

check the wiring harness running down the driverside framerail they deterioate after 30+years and short out on the clips that hold them to the framerails

First place to look IMO is under the rear bumper where the harness has been hacked by 5 mickey mouse electricians for trailer harnesses. Sort that all out with good crimp on connections and heat shrink, then see what you get.
