new rocker panels

i finally decided to remove one of my old rockers today,and it was a fairly big job....between the spot weld remover,a big screwdriver,a big hammer and a really big pair of pliers i finally got it off....now....is there a better place than others to get the new ones?....do some fit better than others?...and finally,do the new ones fit pretty well without too much hassle?...thanks

You should have bought one of the spot weld tools from Eastwood....would have made your job easier..........

Blue Beard...oh,i did buy a spot weld removal bit....and your right it helped like you wouldnt believe....just wondering how well the new ones will match up?...i planned on buying them from GMC pauls too

i dont see what kind of difference there could be,they are all for the same truck....all of the ones i have seen at different sites look to be the same,but i dont know

I have noticed a difference in quality, especially on body panels when they are GM NOS original or an Official Approved GM Restoration Part vs some imported parts. It's almost impossible to find NOS body panels anymore. Some of the panels that come from overseas are pretty good quality though. I like Goodmark products. Some of their stuff is made overseas and I've had pretty good luck with them. I'm sure there are other manufacturers but I don't know them. Although the set of NOS GM ones I installed went on pretty sweet. The fit was good right out of the box with very minimal tweeking. That's a spot where there is alot of room for adjustment. It shouldn't be much of a problem that you removed it before you had a replacement on hand. If you were replacing a partial floor or quarter panel, that would be different. That's a situation where you would want to make sure you weren't cutting off too much of the old material. It would suck to cut off 18", get the replacement panel and it's only 17". What do you think of that spotweld remover? Nice huh? I couldn't imagine going back to a regular drill bit.

There is a big differance in the rockers from differant companies.The ones that Goodmark is carring are alot thicker gauge than the ones you will see at most shows.I have a set of NOS with gm tag that I have been saving and the ones goodmark carries fit just as good only they don't have the wrinkle in the front like the gm.I also threw away 3 sets that came from the auto fair after installing a set of the goodmark ones.I have installed 4 sets of the Goodmarks in the past year and all that has been required to install has been to predrill holes to duplicate factory spot welds,mig and finish.I made sure door gaps where correct and then made sure rocker to door bottom gap was correct. the cheap rockers I use to get at the shows never fit good and the contours never crisp.The last ones I purchased from goodmark cost $17.95 @.

gonebad2...man,that bit did the trick!...i didnt have the air drill like the guy suggested,but it still ate through that weld in seconds

Mothertruckers....well then,they must be pretty good quality,and fit,to have that kind of guarantee...i just may have to buy a couple
