Stepside Tailgate Options
I want to lose the chains, tail lights and latches. I am wondering what some of you have done to modify your stepside boxes to clean them up but still use them. I have already considered just welding it shut but nixed that idea. Thanks

i know what you mean, on the 67 i picked up some of those bullet style lights, they are about 2 inches in diameter and mounted them pretty low but not low enough that i cant fit a back bumper on, also lost the chains too, im not sure how im going to latch it so right now ive got rubber hose jammed in where the chain would hook though, i need to figure that out though before the final stages of body work and paint.

A quickei that I have seen is to put a bolt with a wing nut through the hole where the hook would go to latch it in the up position.

Seat Belt's
I have seen people that use the seat belt snaps and buckel's. You could maybe use some kind of magnet that had a safety hook to insure it didn't open going down the road.
Maybe a electric acutuator hidden in the tailgate that pushes the latches into the side of the bed when you want to close it. I have also seen the door latches that you use on screen doors to hold them shut.
