what should be here?

I think I figured out why the defrost in my Jimmy doesnt work. should there be something that closes the bottom of the floor vent when the switch is moved to defrost? I checked in my truck (non ac) and there is a cable that pulls the vent closed to direct the air up. any ideas

Did you check the vaccum line running to the switch in the engine bay. It should be running from a vaccum source to a little ball. Thats what was wrong with mine... Just wasnt hooked up.

The floor difuser is missing. you can't see the flap from that angle. Reach up into that hole for the linkage that pot on the side moves and see if it's hooked to anything.

The control for the defrosters is on the back of the box. It's a pot like that once you have pictures. To access it pull your glove box door. Once the door is out of the way you will see a linkage. That is the blong doog control cable from the bottom slide on the dash control. Reach over that linkage and the top of the box and you will be able to feel that vacuum pot.

Here is a post going on with a guy at CK5 replacing a heater core. He has a nice picture where you can see the back of the box. The top of the box as it would be when mounted is at the bottom of the picture. The pot that is visable is the one on the back.
