Just got home with it!

Went and picked up the 72 GMC LWB I've mentioned around here a time or two.

It ran real good coming home, stalled on me at the stop sign about 1/4 mile from the gas station, fuel guage showed 1/8 tank so I figured it might be sucking fumes, stopped and filled up on mid grade and it purred like a kitten the rest of the trip home.

Speedo cable is scratching probably gonna be breaking on me soon, shifting into R is kinda sticky, doesn't feel like a transmission thing but a friction in the steering column thing, plus this is a 3 speed original truck with a 700R4 in it now so I figure it's just a drawback to what was probably a shadetree swap.

Got into it at the last stop sign before the house, it smoked the tires damn near into 3rd gear, my wife's pissed at me for "being stupid" haha

I'll try and get some pictures of it tomorrow so I can get some feedback on what kinda job is ahead of me.

I forgot how clean the interior was, it's in really good shape for a 72 quite clean. The fan/heat controls seem to not do much, it pretty much stayed on defrost, low fan regardless where I set it, blew nice and hot though.

Congratulations!!!! I checked out the pics too, looked pretty sweet, glad you got it!

Question to ask on the 700R4... Can you run it through all the gears: P-R-N-Od-D-2-1???? I had a problem with the column shifter binding up on my original 700R4 in my 91' when I did the bodydrop on it(channelled the body over the frame). I ended up making a hybrid linkage for it using part of the OEM mechanical shift linkage and part of a cable operated shifter offered by B&M. It is fully adjustable now and works smooth as silk... When it warms up a little, I can get under it and take some pics if you want....

Oh yeah, I had to LMFAO when I read what your wife said about you smokin the tires. Mine says the same thing.....

Good Luck!
Joe

The speedometer cable sounds like it's not got long to go, and the speedometer kinda bounces around, is there any reason this speedometer cable wouldn't replace what I have:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2457691149

Is $13 for a speedo cable an allright price or would I be better off just getting one local from a parts house?

I picked up mine at AutoZone for around $11 I think. Works just fine. Make sure you lube it good before you put it in (I used graphite).

Bah if it's nearly the same price at autozone then it's definitely not worth the Ebay Hassle.
