Question Flipping front clip

I have seen a couple pics of at least 2 board members that have done this mod on their 67-72's over the past couple years. Does anyone know where I can find some info on this? I can vision how to do all of it in my head, but the only part I get stuck on is where the fender pieces meet, and how it's latched.

Hey Jeff, you ever seen how these front clips are done?? I'm very curious to see how they work and if there is any rubbing noise when driving. I wish crazy longhorn had his own website with some pics. I see he hasn't even posted since November

Dubie,
I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish with a "tilt front end". I can tell you a bit about how its done. Normally a small car or truck hood latch is used at the center of the firewall.

If you just want something different, why not reverse tilt the hood intead? Its much simplier to do, and the end result is much cleaner too. When everything is closed you can't tell it's not stock....

2 reasons

1. It looks cool as all hell

2. It gives you better access to your engine compartment and that's a bonus when you put your small block in the Inline 6 position.

I know material wise , it only costs about $100, but it takes quite a bit of time to get it right. I have a spare front clip to practice on that is basically scrap, so if i screw it up, it's going to the dump anyways.

Dubie, I thought of this also for my 4wd. I was think about running a 2wd fan shroud and moving a modified core support closer to the engine to support the radiator(hoses will be shortened also). Then with the whole front (core, fenders, modifed inners and grill) tilt forward with the hinges mounting to the core support. cut the back the fenders as needed and mount to the cab. Of course cut out what is not needed from the fneders and inners with it all being welded together. I'll also have a front clip to "experiment" with in March after I get the 71 from Dean's brother. We'll have to compare designs. I was thinking of mounting the battery under/in a bed side.

1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm

Ok, my idea is a bit different from yours Jim. I imagine leaving the rad support where it is, but cut away on either side of the rad so the headlight buckets are unattached from the rad section and are ready to tilt. This way your rad and hoses stay put and there is no chnging in length. Then you weld a pin hinge on the bottom of the rad support to get your rolling forward action. You totally eliminate the inner fenders (on a 2wd) and cut the outers where they need to be cut. Extend your headlight wires and attach 2 guide wires to hold you front clip when it's open, or install some suspension cylinders to open it. It all seems to make sense when I have it all drawn out, but I have never seen one in person on a truck.
