Some may know me from the NastyZ28 board, others may soon dread I was able to delete enough porno out of my system to open a membership here.

Anyway, I recently bought a '67 C20 from a friend with a tow company that he had liened. It's a bone stock survivor that runs like a dream. It's a 283, th400, 4:11 posi, factory 16"ers, P/S and 4 wheel manual drums. It is stock from the air cleaner nut to the rearend drain plug, from the horn button to the rubber mat and seat cover. It even sports the original light red paint (although it's oxydized).
A deal for $500.
A couple of days ago I purchased (from the original owner) a '72 K10 for $200. It's in rough shape but other than a missing engine it is a pretty much complete truck. It has the Dana differentials (I'm pretty sure they are) with P/S and P/B with front discs. It has a compound 4 speed row box and the transfer case intact.

I am contemplating a suspension swap making the C/20 a K/10. I'm not totally sold on "hacking" the C/20 but it would be the cheapest/easiest way for me to go, considering I just got done sinking near $80,000 in my Harley.

Anyway, can the '72 4x4 stuff go into the '67 "relatively" easy? Is it possible to use a th400 with the transfer case? I'd rather not row everything I drive. Any recommendations on lifting? I want to look down on all the Hummers and Ford Excusses, etc like they are tinker toys.

If they are both swb you can swap the bodies.

My bad, they are both 127" WB with the LWB. I personally thought the suspension would be the easy thing to swap over. Could it be easier to swap the bodies? The C20 has the "low" hump for the auto setup. Visually i can't see how the th400 would be a bolt up proposition in reguards to the transfer case.

Welcome from Seattle...sounds like you have an ambitious project on your hands...good luck! I would keep the C-20 bone stock and restore the K-20...there are lots of inexpensive parts around. Just my $0.02.

Ambition? I personally list it in the "WTF were you thinkin, you musta bumped your head" catagory.
Considering I'm also restoring a '71 Z28 and building another '70 camaro for my 13 year old son.
I hate to hack the '67, but I have the tools and space to swap whatever in a weekend. I have a 2500 s/f warehouse and a forklift + all kinds of misc. tools.

The 72 you got (at a steel by the way), has a removable high center hump. To convert your C-20 cab over you would need to cut the center out and fab it higher. I also think if you put a 3" body lift on, a low hump cab will fit over the tranny and t-case.

I also agree, keep the 67 stock. The 67's are the first year of this body style, they don't have side marker lights, and seam to be popular. I happen to like the 71-72 style, because of factory front disc brakes and a cool looking grille.

I think it would be easier to just take the good parts (like engine) and slap them on your 4X4. Makign a 2 wheeler into a 4 wheeler is pretty hard, you have to convert the rear suspention to leaf, heck, you have to do the same to the front...all kinds of B.S.
I would honestly go to the junk yard and get a 350 to slap in the 4X4...seems kinda messed up to tear up a virgin 67 when all that is needed is a motor.
As for the tranny, you'll need a tranny from a 4X4 to bolt up to the transfer case. The 4X4 trannys have no tail shaft, while the 2 wheel drive ones do have a tail shaft.
There are planty of people tearing up trucks and sellign the left overs on the parts board, you may be able to get your hands on a Th400 or Th350.

I'm getting it back at the end of this week 2/10 - 2/12. The Spyke starter took a crap and the new one gets here on 2/10, then final tuning. I'll post some pics when I get it back and it's completed.

it would be alot easier to put a new body on the 4x4 and keep the 67 like it is. hate to tear up the nice stock "virgin" truck...
but its yours and you should do what you feel is right.
