My truck retired itself friday
Yep. It decided to take a little break Friday. I had been planning on retiring it in spring and picking up a little driver car while I rebuilt the engine to a 383 and work on other things. I had planned on it being out of commission pretty much all summer.
Well Friday my plans were put into fast forward. As I pulled onto the street 5 blocks from my house, the gears started grinding. I pulled over, put it in park, then tried to run it through the gears. Reverse grinds and all the other gears don't engage, although you can hear spinning. We were getting ready to head out of town this weekend to get away so I haven't had a chance to look into it any further. So rather than fixing it, I decided to just retire it earlier than I had planned and pick up my driver although I didn't think I would be able to get what I was hoping to get in the time frame I had to buy a car. But I did On the way out of town Saturday, my husband and I spotted a 1989 VW Cabriolet which I have loved since I saw the movie Can't Buy Me Love. So we took a look at it Sunday and it was clean and less than we had expected to spend so we came back today took it for a long test drive, had emissions checked on it, and took it to a vw specialist and now it's sitting in my driveway I picked it up for $1700 It's too dark to get pics but I'll post them some other day. I probably won't get a chance to get a good look at my truck until next weekend or even the following. I'm kinda scared cuz I really don't want to find out that I blew up my 2 year old tranny. I'll post what I find out. So now I have a lifted 4x4 and a chick car Can't wait till summer when it's warm enough to put the top down. Oh and for 90hp, that little thing really zips around. I thought it was going to be a dog but I was very surprised.

Just a random comment do you have permission to use that Deviant Art mascot ? as your avatar.
Im sure its some form of policy violation to use copyright material. wouldnt want to get the forums in trouble ya know? |

Sounds like a bad tranny Do you still have a warranty on it? Hopefully it's something under warranty. At least you got a daily driver that you can still take the family in Sounds like you got a great deal on the car.

Sorry to hear about your tranny. Mine is not going so good either. Good that you found a fuel efficient car!
BladeX - Deviant Art doesn't have a problem with that kind of stuff unless YOU MAKE IT a problem. BTW, she knows about copyrights.

DA is all about copyrighting its users and itself hense why when you submit something it says its copyrighted.
I just dont think is appropriate to use their mascot. Its not even creative everyone else makes their own. |

BladeX---This is only the internet. There is NO copyright violation in her using that as an avatar. I see many people using the Chevrolet bowtie as an avatar, is that appropriate?
BTW, get a life.

Generally copyright laws are meant to apply when you are using the item to make a profit on something.........

Thanks for your concern. I'm a member of deviant art and frequent it quite often. They have some amazing artists. Deviant Art members are given permission to use the mascot and even alter it if they wish, so I do have permission. I would never consider doing anything that would hurt any of them. Having a piece of art as an avatar that does not create a profit for me is not a form of copyright violation. I sell white face overlays for our trucks and have a style with a bowtie. I won't sell it because of the copyright. Instead I have it for my personal use. Even when I have people e-mailing me really wanting the bowtie style, I won't do it and it has probably cost me some sales but that's just the type of person I am. If it really bothers you THAT much then I will consider removing it, but deviant art gives permission in its members area to use the mascot. If you're going to get on my case about it, then you should be going to all the other members that have avatars that are not their own pictures and causing problems as well. This would include any pictures of the Simpsons, the Chevy bowtie, various arts and graphics, comic characters, etc. What do you think guys? Should I put a disclaimer in my sig that states: "This avatar is property of deviantart.com. This post is not affiliated with deviant art in any way, shape, or form."

I think that as long as you know it is legal, then it should be nobody else's business.

chevychic, Sorry to hear about your truck dumping on ya. At least it expedited your chick car purchase. Maybe it was meant to happen this way.
As for the avatar concern, don't sweat it. I think BladeX has impressed us all knowing where it came from, and we didn't. Now thats over with, so we can move on with important things. You are in no way violating any copy right laws by using it for an avatar.

IMO, if someones avatar bothers you...you have the option of turning off avatars all together...maybe bladex should go that route.
Sorry to hear about the truck.

Sorry to hear about your truck.
Atleast you will have lots of time to work over it and get things done you wanted to. Its nice to have a second vehicle to get around in while you work on others. I need to get me a second vehicle. Ever thought about getting away from the auto trans and getting a manual? Shifting is fun and more dependable then the auto's in IMO.

blade.. you are fairly new around here... chill out a bit.. we arent trying to run you off. but it almost sounds like you are accusing her of violation of copyright. It also doesnt matter that she is female, we all stand up for eachother.. and please watch the language.. granted we are all adults.. but lets keep the language clean.

Heather, were you planning on getting a new tranny with the 383 re-build? If so, where were you thinking of getting it, and are you going back with the 700r-4?
