Insurance / Gas Tank ???'s

1. I've heard some friends talk about show car insurance, I was curious what kind of insurance plans you all have on your classics.. My dad has a 1968 and I also have a 1968 that we both recetnly bought within 2 months.

2. I was also wandering how many of yall have taken gas tanks and relocated under the bed, and what is needed to do this..

For the tank, you could use one from a blazer under the bed, but you need to add the filler neck somewhere. My favorite setup is behind the taillight.

Where behind the tailgate? What do you guys think about inside the bed? I think I've seen one or two like that

just do a search lax on the board. This topic has been beat all over the board so should be pretty easy to find. I think there might even be a step by step how to in faq's if I'm not mistaken

I'm going with a late 80's Impala tank with the filler neck hidden behind the tag. You know the "fold down tags".

That's a good idea stepside71. Be sure and post pics of the installation. I thought about that, but didn't know which tank to use from what vehicle.

I have Hagerty ins. on my '72. Insured for $6500, cost $75 a year. Grundy is good too.

Stepside how hard would that be to do if you had a roll pan ?

You talking about the fold down tag? If the roll pan is sheet metal it should be no problem as the tag door takes up no more space than the tag itself and is held on with just a few screws.

I just ordered an aluminum fuel cell from fuelcellguy. It will mount under the bed with the filler on the bed floor. I'm using a Hagan tear drop shaped fuel filler door that will be welded into the bed floor and operated remotely with a lokar release handle and cable from inside the cab. Hagan has some awesome fuel filler doors that are very reasonably priced for what you get. I'm sure they have a web site. They are manufactured right here in Carson City Nevada.

I just got my fuel cell (between framerails) from Fuelcellguy on Friday of last week and got it installed yesterday. Its a nice tank and I thought it was a very good price for what I got. He made it to my specs and added all the -An fittings in the tank I needed. You'll be happy with it.

I have Grundy insurance.You must be 25 and have the truck garaged.I had to send in pics of all 4 sides and of the trucks in the garage.Told them what I wanted them insured for and they gave a quote.Have had the blazer insured for the last 4 years.No price increase!Little restriction on driving other than you can't drive it to work everyday.

Here is a pic of the fuel filler door. I really like the quality of this item. It should really make the installation of the underbed tank a snap. I stopped by Hagans today and picked it up. They have a nice setup and were real friendly. They offer alot of different styles.

GoneBad , man I saw that and at first I thought it was a Toilet Seat, maybe a toilet roll dispenser next to it?? Just Kiddn, I like the Idea of behind the license plate. I have a between the rails unit now with the filler in the bed, I was surpised at how much dirt was in the fuel. I run Fuel Injected and I have a Internal Fuel Pump in mine. When I pulled everything out this winter My fuel Filter had a lot of dirt in itand it;s not like I use this truck as a daily driver either, I do how ever use it as a truck. So I had decided to go back to the stock gas tank. I might rethink about relocating the fill behind the License plate. One other thing about filling the tank up from inside the bed, When you go to fill it becare because sometime that line is full of fuel...

Stepside have you really gotten down to really checking this out yet, I mean Physically checked out that possiblity, I am certainly going to look at mine, but more on the wondering that it may be to low to fill the tank.. I will be scoping mine out this weekend to see how doable of an idea it is...

Ha....It does kind of look like a small toilet. I'll never look at it the same again. I'm not too worried about getting dirt in it because the truck won't be hauling anything. The bed is going to the shop to get sprayed with Rhinoliner. I wonder how the spray in bedliner will react to gasoline. Either way, I will check the hose to make sure no gas spills out. I'm not running fuel injection but I did install a large billet fuel filter on the framerail a few feet down from the tank and also an inline one for the dual feed Holley.

I'm planning on using an aluminum fuel cell in the bed. It's simple. And my electric inline fuel pump must be close to or below the level of the fuel cell.

I may end up selling my Aluminum Between the rails tank setup, I just took a quick peak and not sure about the gas fill behind license plate, looks like the tank may be a bit to low to do this, I think I may have to mount things back up in place or get out the tape measure and truely scope it all out before hacking things up. Sure sounds like it should work..

I am going to try to mount it this weekend . The neck is too long to begin with so it will be shortened and angled. I am going to space it an inch or 2 below the frame. If need be the tank will be tilted back a bit. I put the bed on and got a quick look at it . It should work with only minor adjustments. The wife just bought a new digital camera,so hopefully I can start to post pics for this pic hungry boaed to see. I'll try to have some of the gask tank up monday.
