Will A 250 motor and sm tranny pull out

I'm ready to pull the motor from the 72. It has the 250 motor and sm 4 speed tranny. Will these both pull out together without removing the grille and core support? Will it also drop back in?

it will, but it will be tough. may need to buy a load leveling plate for it. helps lots. and a buddy or 2 to help steady the engine.

If you could get the truck high enough to angle the tranny down I think it would work.

o.t.- Could you send me the shipping amount on that fender again. I'm going to have it sent to me.

It would be easier in the long run to drop the tranny, but leave the bellhousing on the engine.I've had my sm465 4sp out of my 1 ton and man is it HEAVY!!!With it coupled to your 6 it's going to weigh in about 6or700 lbs. That alot to handle by yourself.

I thought it was going to be close. I might just go ahead and pull the front clip off, it needs to come off anyway and replace any rusted metal.

I was considering just pulling the motor, but I know what a pain it would be to try to stab the motor back on to the 4 speed. I will be putting in new clutch, pressure plate, berring, and resurface the fly wheel while it's apart.

Well, I started to pull the front clip after I got back from drill. I'm really glad I did. There is more rust on the core support than I actually suspected. It didn't look that bad until I started messing with it, and it started to crumble under the battery box. I can see it will be easier to paint the firewall with the front clip gone too.
