Cleaning out a gas tank
I have a steel Blazer gas tank that has been repaired with a fiberglass patch. It was used for years with no problems but it has been sitting for quite a while out of the blazer. Do you think Ican have it vatted safely or will it screw up the fiberglass patch. Does anyone make something I can put in the tank myself to clean it out myself. I just dont want to screw it up and cause it to start leaking.

I would suggest you have the tank cleaned by steaming it out or have a radiator shop clean it.Then you could use a tank kit. They pour into the tank then the tank is rotated to coat it.After curing it will have a sealed seamless inside coating.
The other alternative is to buy an aftermarket repro tank.I suggest this since you really want to do this job once and not redo it since it started leaking. I think POR 15 makes a kit. they should be easy to find online or at a local swap meet.

I wouldn't fool with it--You can buy a new tank from The Truck Shop for $166 including new straps, sender. Might even find it cheaper if you shop around. Boiling, patching will cost, what-- $60-$75? and you still have a patched tank.

No need to boil out a tank. If you hav access to a steam cleaner, steam it out for an hr or two, dry it for a day or so and pour in the POR 15. Easy work, but time consuming. (the steam cleaner will remove 99.9% of the rust too)
